Video subtitles

Adding subtitles to a video

Subtitles make your video work harder — they keep viewers watching with the sound off, help people follow along in a second language, and make your Story that much more accessible. And in Intractive you've got options: upload a file, write them yourself, or let AI do the first pass for you.

💡Note: First things first — you'll need a Video content block with a video in it. Once your video is in place, the subtitle options appear.

Two ways to add subtitles

When your video is added, you can either upload a subtitle file or create the subtitles right in the editor.

Option 1: Upload a file

Choose to upload a file, and the text is pulled straight into the subtitle editor for you. Always give it a quick read to check the subtitles are correct.

Even after uploading, you're still in control and can make changes, remove the file, or swap in a different document.

Option 2: Create subtitles

Select Create subtitle and you'll go straight to the subtitle editor. Here you can type your own subtitles or generate them with AI. Select the bar below the video to add text blocks that show each line of subtitle at the right moment.

Let AI do the first pass

You can generate subtitles with AI in one click. It transcribes the text for you and drops each line onto the right spot in the video. You stay in control and can edit any line afterwards.

💡Tip: AI helps a lot, but we still highly recommend checking the text manually before you publish. A quick read catches the odd misheard word.

Preview and finish

When you're done, hit play and the subtitles show up automatically in the preview.

💡Good to know: Subtitles use the fonts set in your brand kit. So once you've chosen your fonts in the brand kit and applied that kit to the Video content block, your subtitles appear in exactly the same fonts.

Subtitles in multiple languages 🌍

Captions are set per language, so if your Story runs in more than one language you can give each its own subtitle track. Viewers see the subtitles that match the language they're playing in. Handy for campaigns that cross borders.

In this case, we have added Italian as an additional language. This means that the subtitles have been translated into Italian. If you wish to display the original subtitles, you can do so by selecting ‘original’ below the video.
