Using Canva with the Builder: importing images & video

Love designing in Canva? You can absolutely use it to create the images and videos for your Story; then bring them into the Builder in a few clicks. The flow is simple: design in Canva β†’ export the file β†’ upload it into your content block.

Step 1: Set up your Canva design at the right size

Intractive Stories are vertical (9:16), just like a phone screen. So before you design, set your Canva canvas to match:

  1. In Canva, choose Custom size.
  2. Set it to 1080 Γ— 1920 px.

Designing at the exact Story size means no awkward cropping or stretching later. What you see in Canva is what your viewer sees.

πŸ’‘Tip: Keep important elements β€” text, logos, faces β€” away from the very top and bottom edges. In a live Story, buttons and other interface elements sit over the screen, so leaving a little breathing room at the edges keeps nothing important hidden.

Step 2: Export from Canva

How you export depends on whether you're making an image or a video.

For images

Use Share β†’ Download, then choose:

  • PNG β€” best for crisp graphics, text, or anything that needs a transparent background (like a logo).
  • JPG β€” smaller files, great for photos.

The Builder also accepts WebP and SVG if you have them. Keep the size at 1080 Γ— 1920 for full-screen images.

For videos

Use Share β†’ Download and choose MP4 video. Before you do, check it fits the Builder's limits:

  • Format: MP4
  • Aspect ratio: 9:16 (vertical)
  • Resolution: 1080 Γ— 1920
  • Length: max 30 seconds per video
  • File size: up to 100 MB

πŸ’‘Tip: Canva videos can get large. If your export is over 100 MB, compress it before uploading β€” see Image & video specs for how. And remember: you can't trim video inside the Builder, so cut it to length in Canva first.

Step 3: Upload into your content block

Back in the Builder (Intractive), open the content block where you want the media, and upload your Canva file into the image or video field. The content is directly added to your media library, so you can also use it in other stories or projects.

If your image isn't the exact size, most upload fields give you a focus point selector so you can choose which part stays in view.
